New FEC Contribution Limits

A memo to all you fat cats: you can now give $2300 to each candidate per election.  Feel free to dig a little deeper into your brie and champagne fund for a better America.

  1. You can give up to $28,500 to a campaign committee per year,
and a total of up to $42,700 to candidates over the two year campaign cycle.  That means that you can “max out” to nine different candidates (giving $2,300 for the primary and the general).

All of that is subject to the per person limit on all federal campaign contributions of $108,200 for the two year cycle.

  2. Somebody making $80k could give that. Between Obama, Edwards and his trial lawyer pals, and Hillary’s New York people, there will be plenty of maxed-out checks on our side this cycle. Opposing big money at this point is opposing competitive candidates. Until the system is changed, I want to see Democrats hauling in as much cash as possible to win.
